Field Notes

2022

Photo Book and Anthotype print

Field Notes is an ongoing attempt to reconnect with the Earth. Growing up in Singapore, I heard a lot about living in kampungs but have no idea what it means to be self-sufficient or to have a close relationship with my neighbours. Through farming experiences and reflecting on our daily lifestyles, this work seeks to build a stronger connection with nature and with each other.

This project is done with special thanks to Ground Up Initiative, a non-profit organisation which provides volunteer opportunities to help out in their farm space. The anthotype print is made using spinach. Images taken by me are arranged into collages by participants who volunteered with me, and these collages are then made into prints. Anthotype prints fade with time, which reflects the transient nature of land-based farming spaces in our land-scarce country.
